Director of Faith Formation
Parish Role Title: Director of Faith Formation for St. Regis Parish, 3695 Lincoln, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301
Status: Full time, 12 month, 40 hours weekly, salary, exempt, reports to Pastor
Role Description
The Director of Faith Formation directs, oversees, evaluates and grows the faith formation ministries and child and adolescent sacrament preparation ministries, offering differentiated opportunities for varied family needs.
Key Responsibility Areas
A. Provides leadership and management of catechesis for parish children.

  1. Oversees development of curriculum and the implementation of catechetical programs for children in accordance with Archdiocese of Detroit standards.
  2. Develops, selects and instructs others in use of texts and resources for catechetical programs for children.
  3. Coordinates and supervises: weekly Monday evening faith formation classes; online faith formation with its monthly intergenerational gathering; Sunday morning early childhood ministries and Sunday Children’s Liturgy of the Word; First Eucharist, First Reconciliation and Confirmation sacramental preparation programs for parish children; summer Vacation Bible School; .
  4. Oversees resources (AV, parish library, textbooks, liturgy materials, physical environment, etc.) for operations of evangelization activity.
  5. Proposes budgetary needs and monitors approved budget for faith formation activities.
  6. Conducts annual assessment and evaluation of children’s catechetical ministry programs.

B. Supports religion teaching and faith formation experiences at St. Regis Catholic School.

  1. Supports school administration and faculty with school Masses, and coordinates with school religion committee seasonal liturgy and other faith formation experiences.
  2. Serves as resource for the school religion curriculum and committee.

C. Directs parish-wide formation for catechetical ministries.

  1. Teaches adults and motivates adults to train others.
  2. Recruits, trains and supervises catechists for certification according to diocesan policy and procedures.
  3. Devises appropriate assessment tools for evaluating programs.

D. Collaborates with parish staff.

  1. Attends Parish Staff meetings and serves as a core member of the Pastoral Leadership Team.
  2. Attends Vicariate and Archdiocesan faith formation meetings as appropriate.
  3. Serves as staff liaison to parish and regional youth ministry initiatives at the junior high and high school level.
  4. Fulfills other duties as reasonably assigned or requested by the Pastor.

  1. Understand the proper role of catechesis within the Church’s mission of evangelization.
  2. Self-starter with good creative energy.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills and understanding of the importance of collaboration in parish ministry management.
  5. Good organizational skills and good pastoral leadership skills.
  6. Current with and able to use best communication practices, including use of computer, social media, etc.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards.

B. Education, Training and / or Experience

  1. Formation and experience in parish catechetical ministry programming.
  2. Leads a Catholic Christian-centered lifestyle as leader by example.
  3. Formal education in theology, pastoral ministry, religious education or related field with Bachelor’s degree and experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  4. Participation in ongoing professional formation.
