St. Regis Parish celebrates the Children”s Liturgy of the Word most Sundays during the 10:00 am Mass. Children in first through fifth grade are invited to participate, no registration required. Please note the age. Children need to have finished kindergarten in order to participate effectively. It is not a time for babysitting. We have a Infant/Toddler and Early Childhood program on Sunday for younger children (see below).
CLW at St. Regis invites children to gather in the church with their families for the Introductory Rites of the Mass (about the first 5 minutes). Then, just before the First Reading, the priest invites the adult leader, adult assistant and children to gather at the foot of the sanctuary to be dismissed to the chapel. At the dismissal, the priest blesses and commissions the adult leader, and the children then follow the leader to their worship space.
Children are encouraged to bring one nonperishable food item to Mass each week for the collection. In this way, they are able to participate in the care for our hungry brothers and sisters in the community. Members of the parish deliver the food to the Ladies of Charity or St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
Youth of the parish (grades 6 and up) are invited to participate in the celebration by assisting as sacristans (setting up the worship space), as readers (lectors), as musicians, or as helpers. Adults are invited to participate as leaders of the CLW celebrations. Training is available for all who wish to participate in the CLW ministry.
Dig-In with Jesus Sunday School is for three, four and five year-olds. We gather during the 10:00 am Mass most Sundays throughout the school year. Using a Children’s Bible, the children read the same Gospel story that their parents are hearing at Mass, and they are invited to respond and apply what they’ve heard with age appropriate crafts, activities, songs and games. We focus on learning the Sign of the Cross, reciting traditional Catholic prayers, and becoming familiar with the bible stories. Dig-In with Jesus is held in classrooms 1 and 2 in the school, through the doors that face the Parish Office Center.
Children need to be pre-registered and parents must sign-in with the Sunday School leader before Mass begins. There is no charge for this program.
