Baptism and Initiation

Baptism is the first sacrament we receive as Christians. Along with Confirmation and First Eucharist, Baptism is one of the Sacraments of Initiation, which connect a person fully to the life of the Church, mark the person as fully claimed by Jesus Christ, open the person to connect all in their life to the Holy Spirit, and when all are completed, make a Catholic Christian a full, active member of the Church.

Baptizing Your Infant or Child will give you information on preparing for baptism of the child, choosing godparents, and connecting to the parish in preparation for the baptism.

Becoming Catholic–Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults will give you information on becoming Catholic, if you are interested in the process of becoming a fully initiated Catholic in the Church and:

  • You are already in your teen or adult years, have either never been baptized
  • You are baptized Catholic but never received First Eucharist
  • You have been baptized in another Christian Church.
