Altar Servers

Altar servers serve a very important role at Mass as they assist the priest and deacon. Duties include carrying the processional candles or cross, holding the missal for the priest when he is not at the altar, assisting the priest when he receives the gifts from the people, washing the hands of the priest before the prayer over the gifts, and removing items from the altar after Communion. Altar servers minister not only to the priest, but first and foremost they serve God, and they serve the gathered assembly.
